BoomScroll: Discover Italian Solo Developer Toiu's Free Demo Before Steam Next Fest Ends

Sunday, October 25, 2026 offers one last weekend opportunity before Steam Next Fest closes on October 26: BoomScroll, a hand-drawn bullet heaven created by Italian solo developer Toiu. The free demo is already live. Crucially, it did not launch today: Steam lists October 1 as the demo's release date. Fresh specialist coverage on October 23 has brought the project back into view, making this a useful moment to separate what players can actually try from what remains planned for the full game.

A bullet heaven with a different direction

BoomScroll takes familiar genre ingredients—waves of enemies, experience points, loot and increasingly powerful equipment—and places them in a world that keeps scrolling upward. Toiu's official description puts the emphasis on climbing higher and higher while finding tools that extend each attempt.

That vertical direction gives progress a visual meaning. Moving up becomes part of how the action is read, rather than just a backdrop for defeating opponents. This is our editorial interpretation of the documented concept, not a claim that unannounced mechanics have been confirmed.

Weapons, experience and new characters

According to the Steam listing, players can obtain weapons, gain experience, level up, collect loot and recruit or unlock new characters. The idea is to assemble increasingly effective combinations as an initially modest arsenal turns into something much more formidable.

For fans of roguelites, the appeal lies in discovering how upgrades work together while the world continues moving. Newcomers can use the free demo to assess whether the speed, clarity and rhythm feel right before deciding whether to follow the complete release.

A hand-drawn personality

BoomScroll is presented through colorful, hand-drawn artwork rather than photorealism. Its characters, monsters and promotional illustrations aim for immediate personality; the visual language is part of the game's identity rather than simply decoration.

Toiu's own itch.io page names Godot as the engine and states that the game's content was made without generative AI. Those are the developer's statements, and they offer useful context for a small project shaped by one creator's technical and artistic choices.

How to try BoomScroll right now

The Steam demo has its own listing, separate from the main game. It was released on October 1, 2026 and shows support for English, Italian and German alongside other languages. That demo is free to download; it should not be mistaken for a full commercial launch.

An official browser-playable version is also available on Toiu's itch.io page. It provides another entry point, although we cannot confirm that its build and every feature are identical to those of the Steam demo. Both primary sources are linked below.

When will the complete game arrive?

As checked on October 25, the main Steam listing gives January 2027 as the intended release window. BoomScroll is therefore an upcoming title with a playable demo, not a finished game that launched this weekend.

Release windows can move. Anyone tracking development should rely on the developer's announcements and the official Steam store listing rather than treating older third-party database dates as final.

Why this Italian indie deserves a look

BoomScroll stands out as a clearly authored solo project: Toiu is credited as both developer and publisher, and the art direction establishes a memorable identity. A news feature dated October 23 recently highlighted it, but the game's own pages remain the basis for confirming availability and mechanics.

The practical question is whether ascending through enemy waves while building an increasingly strong character feels satisfying over repeated attempts. We are not assigning a review score or pretending to have completed a hands-on test. With a free demo available, readers can decide for themselves.
