Food Devils: Italian Studio Daimon Expands Its Steam Next Fest Demo Ahead of Early Access

Italian indie developer Studio Daimon released an expanded Food Devils demo on October 19, 2026, just as Steam Next Fest opened for its October 19–26 run. The game mixes grid-based tactics, restaurant building and roguelite expeditions in a post-apocalyptic setting. This is a refreshed free trial ahead of release, not the arrival of the finished game.

According to the studio, the new build includes the entire prologue, estimated at five to six hours, along with replayability through alternative party setups and builds. Two Food Devils, Hunter and Poison, are playable, and the story now has full English voice acting. Those figures describe the developer’s expectations; we have not independently measured the playtime.

How serving dinner becomes a tactical decision

The premise casts players as the last chef in a collapsing world. Meals prepared from monster ingredients attract adventurers to a restaurant, where they can enter contracts with the mysterious Food Devils. Expeditions then send those recruits to fight creatures and return with new ingredients. The restaurant is therefore not a decorative menu: it shapes the party that heads into the next battle.

Combat unfolds on a tactical grid, putting placement and movement alongside skills and equipment. Steam describes parties built around one Devil and up to four human adventurers, with distinct classes such as Warrior, Shielder, Mage and Healer. Procedurally arranged expeditions and four biomes give players reasons to reconfigure their teams and rethink which dishes and powers to prioritize.

The important save-file difference between June and October

Studio Daimon says saves from the first demo, released in June, will not work in this new version. The more encouraging claim is that progress from the October demo will carry into the planned Early Access launch on November 3, 2026. That compatibility is a developer announcement rather than something we could verify before Early Access becomes available.

The October build also follows months of responses to player feedback. The team reports tutorial, interface and quality-of-life work, alongside more prologue content. Trying both Hunter and Poison may help players understand how different contracts change tactics, while the estimated campaign duration should not be mistaken for a cap on possible roguelite runs.

Not just combat: characters, contracts and a few caveats

The official game description also promises restaurant customization, character relationships and even romance with, or matchmaking between, the Devils. Those features make the game’s hook broader than either a pure strategy RPG or a conventional restaurant simulator: choices made between encounters are part of the strategic loop.

There are limitations worth noting. In the October 19 update, the developer mentioned a possible brief pause when opening Expedition Preparation and warned that the demo was not yet optimized for Steam Deck. The separate demo listing currently shows English as its interface language; language support advertised for the main game should not be confused with confirmed translations in this particular demo.

A chance to assess the design before November 3

The best reason to try Food Devils now is to test its tutorial, tactical pacing and connection between the kitchen and the battlefield firsthand. Steam Next Fest ends on October 26; November 3 is the announced start of Early Access, not a confirmed final 1.0 release. This is an editorial look at official information, not a review based on hands-on play.

A separate post-apocalyptic thread: THE SIGNAL

For readers drawn to darker imagined worlds, Smart GFX offers THE SIGNAL // 08 BLACKOUT as an independently created canvas artwork. The connection is thematic only: it is not licensed Food Devils merchandise. Smart GFX has no partnership or affiliation with Studio Daimon, Steam or Valve.
