No gaming announcement over the weekend has been more significant in the past 48 hours. The clearest upcoming news is therefore an official release: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse launches October 15, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. Konami describes it as a 2D action-exploration game set 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, developed with Evil Empire and Motion Twin.

This is more than a nostalgic throwback. The adventure places Rose Belmont at the center of a burning Paris in 1499, with Trevor Belmont returning at her side wielding the sacred Vampire Killer whip. The premise introduces a faster, more fluid gameplay system built around Rose's development and more mobile combat.

Paris in 1499 and a new Belmont

Creatures emerging from the shadows overrun the streets of the French capital. Trevor and Rose head toward the castle dominating the skyline, but the younger Belmont is drawn into a larger conspiracy. Konami thus links the new installment to the classic timeline without putting the entire narrative burden on Trevor: the journey is designed as Rose's formative adventure.

The whip doubles as a movement tool

The Vampire Killer isn't just for striking enemies. Rose can hook it onto environmental features, swing and accelerate her movements like a trapeze artist. The result promises a more agile pace both in exploration and combat, with routes that allow her to reach enemies, platforms and passages otherwise out of range.

Bosses, Arcana cards and abilities

Death, Medusa and Carmilla return alongside newcomers to the series, including Joan of Arc. Once defeated, a boss is sealed inside one of Rose's tarot cards and becomes an Arcana. Arcana unlock spells and special moves: they aren't just collectible rewards, but tools that can change how players approach combat and exploration.

Progression therefore goes hand in hand with learning about enemies. Defeating a major opponent unlocks a new tactical option that can also be used to experiment with different combinations in later sections.

Seven weapon categories and Relics

In addition to her whip, Rose can equip weapons from seven different categories. Relics add offensive and defensive effects, while items found during exploration let players develop their own style. It is an approach that fits the game's action-exploration identity: the map provides not just keys, but new ways to fight.
