A Game About Digging a Hole Together: Release Date, Cross-Play and Game Pass

Revealed during the October 20 ID@Xbox x IGN Showcase, A Game About Digging a Hole Together now has a firm date: the cooperative sandbox launches on December 4, 2026. The premise remains deliberately focused — dig, collect, sell and upgrade — but this time the hole can be explored with friends.

The minimalist formula can now be played online with friends.

Release and platforms: it is not just on Xbox

Shochiku Games confirms a broad release on PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Xbox app, alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The Xbox version will join Game Pass on launch day. Xbox Wire lists the same date for Series X|S and Xbox on PC.

Each descent yields resources and better equipment.

The Xbox store also lists Xbox Play Anywhere, cloud saves and support for more than 60 frames per second on compatible hardware. Those features apply to the Xbox ecosystem; the multiplatform announcement does not promise identical functionality on every system.

Online co-op and cross-play for up to four

The main addition is online co-op for up to four players, with cross-play across the announced platforms. Solo play remains available too: the official Xbox and Steam listings explicitly include a single-player mode.

The terrain is deeper and more varied.

The loop begins on a beach. Players dig deeper, collect materials, sell their finds and reinvest the proceeds in better equipment. Splitting tasks and deciding where to open new routes can speed up the descent toward the promised treasure.

New tools unlock increasingly challenging areas.

Deeper terrain, more tools and secrets

Mi'pu'mi Games has rebuilt the first game's flow around community feedback. The sequel promises deeper, more varied terrain, additional tools and more secrets while preserving the direct formula instead of turning it into a complicated survival game.

Resources and secrets are hidden among the sand and caverns.

Mi'pu'mi Games is developing the project, while rokaplay Select and Shochiku Games are listed as publishers. The Japanese announcement confirms fourteen supported languages. Regional pricing and availability may differ between stores.

Cross-play lets four people dig together.

Why this announcement matters

The first game showed how a single polished action could sustain an entire experience. The sequel preserves that clarity while adding the most requested variable: digging together. A simultaneous multiplatform launch and cross-play also reduce the friction of assembling a group.
