Call of Duty MW4: DMZ Reveals Hajin, Crafting and Persistent Operators

On October 9, 2026, Activision unveiled the Forward Operating Base in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, revealing the core of the new DMZ: a persistent headquarters, Operators that grow between deployments and a map called Hajin designed to mix exploration, AI encounters and ambushes by other players.

Three ways to deploy into Hajin

DMZ offers three deployment types. Story Missions follow narrative objectives; Dynamic Operations vary the tasks and threats in the field; and Free Roam offers complete freedom to explore, loot or hunt targets and rival squads. Every run still revolves around the same choice: keep taking risks, or make it to extraction before losing everything collected.

The FOB turns loot into progression

The Forward Operating Base is more than a preparation screen. It lets players store weapons and materials, take on orders, manage loadouts and unlock new stations. The 3D Printer, available from DMZ level 2, uses resources and ingredients brought back from Hajin to craft gear and improve the base. Vendors, the Gunsmith, Boss Board and Dog Tag Case are unlocked progressively, giving loot value beyond a single match.

DMZ progression is separate from multiplayer and goes up to level 70. Recipes, stations and FOB upgrades create a distinct growth system closer to a persistent extraction shooter.

Persistent Operators, traits and the risk of going MIA

Players begin with two active Operator slots, unlocking a third through progression. Each Operator earns trait points through their dog tag and can specialize in the Warfighter, Scout and Survivalist branches. The cap is 18 points across 66 available traits: enough to create distinct roles, but not to unlock everything.

If an Operator is eliminated, they become MIA. They can be recovered with DMZ Cash and retain their traits, but return without their equipment. This is less permanent than losing a character entirely, yet keeps a real cost attached to a failed deployment.

Shared stash and decisions before extraction

Weapons, gear, ingredients and extracted items enter a stash shared by active Operators. Every backpack becomes a resource for the whole roster: a cautious extraction can prepare the next mission, while an overlong pursuit puts both the haul and the FOB development plan at risk.
