Colorbound Launches: 60 FPS and Extra Levels on Nintendo Switch 2

Colorbound launched on October 12, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Panpipe Studio's puzzle platformer is built around a genuinely central mechanic rather than a visual gimmick: color changes the world and becomes the key to moving through it.

Color doesn't decorate the level: it transforms it

The protagonist, Kroma, uses a paintbrush to change the colors of walls, platforms and other elements in the environment. Different color combinations open paths, make previously inaccessible areas traversable and encourage players to treat each environment as a puzzle. The result is a platformer where movement and puzzle-solving are closely linked.

The concept began at Game Jam Plus 2025. The prototype was later expanded by Isaias Arrué R., the Chilean founder and solo developer behind Panpipe Studio, into a complete adventure published by Whitethorn Games. Those compact origins are evident in the main mechanic's clarity: each room presents an understandable problem and asks the player to experiment with color.

A journey rooted in Aymara culture

Colorbound does not separate its mechanics from its cultural identity. Its landscapes, symbols and music draw on Aymara culture and the Andes. Sound also has a specific role: the panpipes accompany the journey, connecting the digital adventure with the developer's family history. This makes the game distinctive without reducing its cultural inspiration to decoration.

Switch 2: 60 FPS, extra levels and an important warning

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition runs at 60 frames per second, compared with 30 FPS on the original Switch, and includes exclusive unlockable extra levels. Nintendo also warns that the base Switch version is not supported on Switch 2 because of issues that may prevent progress. Players using the newer console should therefore choose the Switch 2 Edition specifically.

On PC, the Steam listing confirms achievements and Steam Cloud, along with Italian and German interface and subtitle options. Nintendo likewise lists both languages. The Xbox Series X|S version arrives on the same day as the global launch, bringing the new game to the major current platforms.

Why this indie game deserves attention

Colorbound arrives without pretending to be a blockbuster. Instead, it focuses on an immediately understandable visual mechanic, a distinct cultural identity and a scale appropriate for an independent developer. The difference between the two Nintendo editions is significant, however, and worth checking before purchase. On Switch 2, the dedicated edition is the correct choice for both compatibility and bonus content.
