Escape Academy 2: Open-World Campus and Co-op Arrive November 5

The date is set: Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School launches on November 5, 2026, for PS5 and Steam. Coin Crew Games and iam8bit Presents are transforming the room-by-room structure of the first game into a fully explorable campus, where puzzles no longer wait behind closed doors: they are woven into the architecture, missions and hidden routes throughout the school.

At the heart of the sequel is the shift from linear progression to an open hub. The Academy is divided into distinct areas: the Headmaster's Tower, the humanities campus, the science campus and the arts campus. A new official behind-the-scenes feature shows how monuments, fountains, offices and libraries have become landmarks, optional objectives and visual clues.

Coin Crew Games says it reduced overly empty areas during development, adding interactive landmarks, optional missions and escape rooms. The goal is to reward curiosity: spotting an inaccessible location, later figuring out how to reach it, and connecting elements in the environment are part of solving the puzzle, not merely sightseeing.

Headmaster's Tower and the humanities campus

Headmaster's Tower was among the first environments to take shape and helped establish the game's new art direction. The headmaster's office recalls the first escape in the original game, but offers more richly detailed spaces and a visual design intended to tell the story of the institution even before players solve a puzzle.

The humanities campus, meanwhile, has changed more than any other area from the original two-dimensional map. The library's classical inspiration returns in a warmer setting organized around courtyards, classrooms, offices and a keyhole-shaped fountain visible from several viewpoints. It serves both as a navigational landmark and as an invitation to work out how to reach it.

Full co-op, online or on the couch

The entire campaign can be played solo or cooperatively. Both online and local split-screen play are supported, with the campus, story and puzzles accessible together from the very beginning. There is also an optional No-Timer mode for players who prefer to think without the pressure of a countdown.

The new structure does not eliminate handcrafted escape rooms: it integrates them into a wider campaign featuring characters, side missions and a mystery surrounding the school's founding. The campus connects each challenge to the next while also becoming a continuous puzzle filled with secret passages, tunnels and traps.

Platforms and release date: what is actually confirmed

PS5 and Steam are now confirmed for November 5, 2026. The Steam page also confirms Italian and German interface and subtitle options, online and local co-op, and full controller support. A demo is already available on Steam, featuring the first chapter, the new mission system, campus exploration and an escape inside the Clock Tower.

For Xbox platforms, an earlier official announcement confirms Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox on PC in 2026, with a Game Pass release and Xbox Play Anywhere support. At the time of verification, the Xbox announcement reviewed did not explicitly give November 5 as the release date. We therefore attribute that exact date only to the PS5 and Steam versions rather than assuming it applies to Xbox as well.

Why the sequel could reinvent the formula

The first Escape Academy worked because it concentrated its ideas into compact, readable rooms. The sequel aims for a more ambitious balance: retaining precisely designed puzzles while using the open world as connective tissue. If its environmental clues, missions and navigation truly work together, the campus itself could become the game's biggest puzzle.
