The Moon on a Rainy Night: First Trailer, Cast and 2027 Premiere
The Moon on a Rainy Night will premiere on Japanese television in 2027. Its first trailer, released October 7, 2026, introduces the meeting between Saki Kindaichi and Kanon Oikawa and immediately establishes the series' intimate, everyday tone. It explores the physical and emotional distance between two girls who gradually get to know one another.

A first trailer with a meaningful accessibility feature
The preview follows Saki on her way to a piano lesson, where she meets Kanon shortly before starting high school. When they end up in the same class, Saki learns that Kanon has a hearing disability and tends to keep others at a distance. The story begins not with a dramatic twist, but with looks, hesitation and small gestures.
The trailer's most significant feature is also technical: it offers closed captions in 17 languages and regions, including Italian and German. These captions cover not only dialogue but also sound and music cues. This is a fitting choice for a story in which listening, communication and experiences invisible to others are central themes.

A story about connection, not an easy melodramatic shortcut
The anime adapts Kuzushiro's manga, published by Kodansha on Comic DAYS. Saki is a kind student who has studied piano since childhood. Kanon experienced sudden hearing loss in elementary school and withdrew from classmates and teachers after difficult experiences.
The focus is not on defining Kanon through a single trait, but on watching the relationship between the protagonists change. Saki tries to reach out without treating Kanon as a problem to solve; Kanon retains pride, humor, vulnerability and a desire for connection. The title suggests something still present even when clouds hide it, an apt metaphor for feelings that are not immediately visible.

Cast, director and animation studio
Iori Saeki voices Saki Kindaichi, while Sora Amamiya plays Kanon Oikawa. Tomoe Makino directs, Shogo Yasukawa handles series composition and scripts, Ayumi Nishibata designs the characters, and CompTown produces the animation.
Other principal staff include assistant director Tomoyuki Itamura, color designer Haruko Nobori, art director Mai Ichioka, cinematographer Atsushi Sato, editor Masahiro Goto and sound director Nobuyuki Abe. The official site confirms a 2027 television premiere but has yet to identify an exact date, Japanese broadcaster or international streaming service.

Music by jizue
The soundtrack is composed by jizue, an instrumental band from Kyoto. Their music is already featured in the first preview and has a distinctive role because piano and sound are part of the story itself. The production has chosen an ensemble that can work with silence, rhythm and emotional nuance without overpowering the scenes.
The members of jizue have said they sought a musical language that respects Kanon's world and accompanies the distance between the characters. Rather than simply underscore the action, the music is intended to convey emotions that often go unspoken.

Why this announcement deserves attention
The Moon on a Rainy Night promises a school drama centered on representation, accessibility and the slow development of human relationships. Rather than reducing hearing disability to a plot device, the trailer makes room for Kanon's personality and the ways Saki learns to communicate with her.
The confirmed 2027 premiere is still a broad window. Episode count, exact date, Japanese channels, international streaming and European dubs remain unannounced. The October 7 material should therefore be understood as the project's official introduction, not a definitive release schedule.
