NHK has set the television premiere for Horror Collector. The anime begins October 10, 2026 on NHK General and will air every Saturday at 11:45 p.m. in Japan. The September 18 announcement arrives with the first full teaser, a main visual and four central cast members. It turns the previous general October window into a precise appointment just after the start of the fall season.

Urban legends become real

The series adapts the children’s horror novels written by Midori Sato and Norio Tsuruta, with original illustrations by Yon. In Horror Collector, urban legends stop being rumors and take physical form. Fushigi Senno, recognizable by his red hood, travels across Japan to collect these manifestations inside his red notebook.

He is accompanied by Jimmy, a photographer transformed into a dog with a human face. Fushigi is searching for Himitsu, the girl able to materialize urban legends. The teaser leans into the contrast between a style accessible to younger readers and disturbing imagery: empty corridors, impossible presences and supernatural incidents invading ordinary life.

Main cast and creative direction

Hiiro Ishibashi voices Fushigi, while Jun Fukuyama plays Jimmy. Saori Hayami is Himitsu and Nobuhiko Okamoto voices the mysterious Blue Umbrella Man. The four roles already define the story’s central axis: the collector, the companion who can release some tension, the pursued figure and a new presence tied to the supernatural events.

Yuki Inaba directs the anime and handles series composition. Kaori Yoshikawa is character designer, Masato Koda composes the music and Tetsuya Gunji serves as sound director. Animation is produced by Studio Palette, with NHK Enterprises producing and NHK credited for production and copyright. The opening theme is “Kageboshi” by Shikao Suga.

Where it airs and what remains unconfirmed

The confirmed platform is NHK General in Japan, every Saturday at 11:45 p.m. from October 10. The official website already displays sections for streaming and merchandise, but no international platform schedule was published with the announcement. A European simulcast and Italian, German or English dubs therefore remain unconfirmed.

The announcement matters because Horror Collector comes from a novel series with more than one million copies in circulation and uses urban legends to introduce younger audiences to Japanese horror. The teaser suggests Studio Palette will not remove the unsettling side of the material, but make it readable through Fushigi’s journey and his partnership with Jimmy.
