Minecraft on Switch 2: Vibrant Visuals, Free Upgrade and World Transfers
Minecraft has been available for Nintendo Switch 2 since October 27, 2026. This is more than a straight port of the Switch release: the new edition integrates Vibrant Visuals, transfers existing worlds, keeps cross-play and includes an updated Super Mario Mash-Up Pack.

Vibrant Visuals changes light, water and atmosphere
Vibrant Visuals is the biggest technical leap in the Switch 2 edition. Its modern graphics pipeline adds directional lighting, volumetric fog, dynamic shadows, water reflections and a richer presentation for forests, sunrises and underground spaces. Minecraft keeps its block-based identity, but lighting and weather now define each biome more strongly.
The visual upgrade is enabled as the default experience and can also work with supported Marketplace content. Official limitations apply: Vibrant Visuals is unavailable in split-screen and may not work in certain Marketplace worlds or content packs.

The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is included
Every edition includes the Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, updated to use Vibrant Visuals. It features a custom world with locations such as Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza, 15 music tracks and 40 player skins inspired by the Super Mario series.
The pack does not change Minecraft’s core rules. It transforms environments, music and characters while preserving building, exploration and survival.

Free upgrade and transferable worlds
Players who own a digital copy of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the digital Switch 2 Standard Edition for free in most regions through Nintendo eShop. The offer runs from October 27, 2026 at 9 a.m. PT until January 31, 2027 at 9 a.m. PT; Japan, Taiwan and Thailand charge a small local fee.
Worlds from the Switch version can also be carried over, preserving builds, inventories and progress. Physical-edition owners can launch the Switch game on Switch 2 during the promotional window and receive an in-game message offering the digital Ultimate Collection at a discount.

Multiplayer, cross-play and technical details
Nintendo confirms one to four players on a single system, two to eight via local wireless and two to eight online. Cross-play connects console, PC and mobile players, but requires a Microsoft Account; online multiplayer also requires Nintendo Switch Online.
Realms Plus supports a private world for up to ten friends. Nintendo lists a 1.5 GB file size, with Italian, German and English among the supported languages.

Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate
The Standard Edition includes the base game, Vibrant Visuals and the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. The Deluxe Collection adds three add-ons, three Character Creator items and 700 Minecoins. The Ultimate Collection increases that to five add-ons, five character items and 1,000 Minecoins.
Minecoins bought or included on a Nintendo device remain within the Nintendo ecosystem. This is separate from cross-play: worlds can connect across platforms, while the currency does not move outside Nintendo hardware.

Is the Switch 2 edition worth the upgrade?
For owners of the digital Switch version, the free upgrade makes the decision straightforward. Existing worlds remain, multiplayer continues and Vibrant Visuals provides a visible improvement without turning Minecraft into a different game. Cartridge owners instead need to weigh the discounted digital Ultimate Collection offer.
Continuity is the most important benefit. Nintendo and Mojang are not asking players to abandon years of building: the new edition enhances that history with a modern visual layer and an upgraded Mario pack.
